Makar Sankrant Say No to Kite Fest Protest


Student Volunteers of Plant & Animals Welfare Society – Mumbai (PAWS-Mumbai)  lead under the supervision of Nisha Kunju organized awareness protest at various public place like BEST Stop, Public Garden in areas like Powai, Bhandup, Mulund, to create awareness about ill-effect of Kite flying during & after Makar Sankrant, in which 1000’s of birds die or become life time handicap. This event was as part of PAWS-Mumbai’s Humane Education Programme, we strongly believe that with the help of mediums like protest, video screening, live talks and interaction, the society tries to create awareness about animal welfare and inform the public about animal laws and issues related to it. PAWS – Mumbai strongly feels that humane education is essential if the condition of animals has to improve.

A Owl was rescued from Mulund West Municipal School, Near Kalidas Natya Mandir. Call was received resident of School Staff Quarters, that a Owl was sitting on ground since long without any movement. Its one wing was injured. 

Birds Injured due to Manja call attended by PAWS-Mumbai team in 2012 Makar Sankranti till date is 2 Kite, 1 Pigeon, 1 Sparrow, 1 Owl.
