AWBI Secretary told to State Forest Officers after PAWS-Mumbai Complaint

Animal Welfare Board of India Secretary told to State Forest Officers on 19th June 2013 after Plant & Animals Welfare Society – Mumbai (PAWS-Mumbai) Complaint on 18 June 2013 in regards to Bijli and another elephant which the same owner, which he kept in very critical condition at Mulund.

As per the AWBI Secretary E-Mail received by PAWS-Mumbai Office  it said ............


I have spoken to Mr. Naqui, PCCF, Nagpur & Mr. Chavan, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Thane informed that the injured elephant is being taken care by the Vet and it is very badly injured in the 2 front legs and they are not able to lift the animal to any hospital due to obese condition and grave injured condition of the animal.

As per his observations, recovery may be very slow and vets are taken good care of the animals. Regarding the other animal which is being subjected to begging, Deputy Conservator of Forests is having  a view that owners is having a proper ownership certificate and they are ready to take legal action provided if any NGO will take care of rehabilitation of the elephant and the mahout. He is also taking about a NGO at Mathura who is taking care of elephants. As per direction of VC, AWBI, Board is writing letter to PCCF, Nagpur to take necessary action on the complaint by PAWS, Mumbai is the abuse of the Bijli, 60 years old elephant.
On 21 June 2013, PAWS-Mumbai Office written a letter to Deputy Conservator of Forests (T- Thane) in regards to Rehabilitation of the elephant  issue

As per the PAWS-Mumbai Office letter it said ............

This is reference to E-Mail (No.22-1/13-14 AWB Dated 19.06.13) received from Secretary – Animal Welfare Board of India. We would like to inform you that, there is a government agency and also an NGO who is working for funding and rehabilitation of elephants in India. So we request you as a concerned authority kindly approach below mention agency and NGO for help and guidance is this issue.
